Graduate #2

Well, we graduated our second child from homeschooling. The time we have with our children is fleeting, but I am so glad to be able to home educate them, and be with them as they grow.


Dear Lewis,
Well, we did it! We finished 12 years of school together. You had to suffer through my blunders and mistakes, and my trying to figure out how to teach you, and for that, I apologize. But you always bore it manfully, patiently and without complaining. And though your formal schooling was only 12 years, your life has been a journey of learning and discovering, and we hope it always will be. You and I had help along the way from very talented people, and some of them are here today, so make sure to thank them. And we could not have done it without your Dad’s unwavering support, so make sure to thank him as well.

It is a joy to be your mother, and it has been an honor and a privilege to be your teacher, your guide and your cheerleader. I look back fondly on the years we spent together, and I am so grateful for being able to be such a large part of your life and education. It was time well spent. Your hard work and determination, mixed with a bit of stubbornness has served you well and you have earned this diploma. You took on your education and made it your own, completing the tasks I set before you, but also pursuing your own interests with zeal. It has been a pleasure to watch you grow up and become a man, ready to take on the world, wanting to please God, and setting your course.


But today we are also celebrating your graduation from Basic Training, something you took on yourself, and made your own. Your hard work and determination and stubbornness served you well, and we are so proud of you for completing the task that was set before you. You earned everything pinned onto your uniform.

You have been your own man for some time. You won’t quit; you won’t give up; and you won’t ring the bell. I love you, son.

Now go into the world in peace and have courage. Hold onto what is good, honor all men. Strengthen the faint-hearted, support the weak. Help the suffering and share the gospel. Love and serve the Lord in the power of the Holy Spirit, and may the grace and peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you now and always, Amen.

Merry Christmas! Here are a few highlights from this past year: Deb hosted her youngest siblings at the barn and put them to work, then gave them a chance to ride Gypsy. She is still with CCF as a Medic and enjoys her job. She has been trail riding a lot, travelling and competing with her horse Gypsy, and branched out in her costume making hobby to make a Medieval costume for a friend's horse. The biggest change in Deb's life this past year is the addition of a cat named Toby! Lewis and Kaitlynn are enjoying their home and and yard. Kaitlynn is working as a legal secretary and has made a beautiful home for them both. When not working, Kaitlynn loves to make candles and bread, including sourdough. She is enjoying building their home library with more classics than she can shelve (be still, my heart), reading, and playing piano. Lewis built two beautiful bookcases for their growing library. Marino Natale Lettera 2023

             Christmas   Greetings from the Marinos! A few news items from our house: Deb officially adopted Gypsy and works at the barn for her room and board when she is not doing her paramedic job or making beautiful quilts. Sometimes she is working on our side of town and crashes at our place and then hangs out with us for a while. I love it when she does that! Lewis and Kaitlynn tied the knot just this month! We are all so happy for the newly wedded couple and thankful Kaitlynn is a part of our family. Margie and James and their passel of cats continue to live in warm, sunny AZ. Margie traveled to San Diego and also conquered her fear of flying alone and came to Cleveland for the wedding. Jared is working steadily toward his associates degree and continues to write, create, make music and entertain his siblings. He recently taught himself how to bind books, and he is becoming conversational in Italian.           ...

*** Greetings to you all as we near the end of another year, a year much unlike other years. This will be a long letter; but you are probably locked in your house with nothing better to do anyway, so enjoy! In January, we said goodbye to our rental property and sold it. It was our first home as a married couple, and we spent 10 years on both sides of the duplex raising our first three children. It was bittersweet and freeing at the same time. Jay was freed up to work on projects in our own home, and the sale proceeds generated cash for big projects, such as a new roof and skylights, new patio and fence!  The patio was the last project of the season, and it was finished in time for us to enjoy it a bit before the cold weather set in. Because of all the work done on the house, Jay did not get to garden as usual, but next year, with a deer proof fence and no interference from projects, he should be good to go!
