Merry Christmas! Here are a few highlights from this past year: Deb hosted her youngest siblings at the barn and put them to work, then gave them a chance to ride Gypsy. She is still with CCF as a Medic and enjoys her job. She has been trail riding a lot, travelling and competing with her horse Gypsy, and branched out in her costume making hobby to make a Medieval costume for a friend's horse. The biggest change in Deb's life this past year is the addition of a cat named Toby! Lewis and Kaitlynn are enjoying their home and and yard. Kaitlynn is working as a legal secretary and has made a beautiful home for them both. When not working, Kaitlynn loves to make candles and bread, including sourdough. She is enjoying building their home library with more classics than she can shelve (be still, my heart), reading, and playing piano. Lewis built two beautiful bookcases for their growing library. He works hard to keep the highway safe and has won some awards, including Trooper of the Y...

*** Greetings to you all as we near the end of another year, a year much unlike other years. This will be a long letter; but you are probably locked in your house with nothing better to do anyway, so enjoy! In January, we said goodbye to our rental property and sold it. It was our first home as a married couple, and we spent 10 years on both sides of the duplex raising our first three children. It was bittersweet and freeing at the same time. Jay was freed up to work on projects in our own home, and the sale proceeds generated cash for big projects, such as a new roof and skylights, new patio and fence!  The patio was the last project of the season, and it was finished in time for us to enjoy it a bit before the cold weather set in. Because of all the work done on the house, Jay did not get to garden as usual, but next year, with a deer proof fence and no interference from projects, he should be good to go! That Whatchamacallit Meal

Most of the time after a meal of creatively combined leftovers, I say to myself: "Well, I'm glad that's over with." But once in a while, I have just the right combination of leftovers and a bit of this and that needing to be used up, and presto! I have a meal that I would make again, on purpose! I can't quite remember how it happened, but the following ingredients found their way into one skillet: leftover baked potatoes half used up onions, chopped a variety of tomatoes, chopped some bacon, cut into pieces random mushrooms a couple of jalapenos from the garden a quarter of a bell pepper I fried them all up in a bit of butter until the bacon was done and dished it up. But then, I realized that it wasn't quite complete without 2 eggs, over easy with enough runny yolk to ooze down into my dish, and a dash of hot sauce. So, of course, I had to cook some eggs quickly.
